Be Prepared for anything!

With all the flooding happening in the South it is very important that you prepare your family and your pet for disaster.
President Barack Obama has proclaimed
September as National Preparedness Month!

Now is the time to prepare and make sure you are ready if disaster strikes.

For more information about being ready for a disaster go to www.ready.gov.com.

There are tips to prepare for disasters, all the way from fires to tornadoes to floods.

• Keep a list of all your dogs, their names, breed, sex, color, age and any special characteristics. Also list their favorite hiding places.
• Keep your pets' medical records, including rabies, distemper and other inoculations, up to date. Also, have your vet’s number handy.
• Have a lightweight, strong carrier or crate for each dog.
• Be sure your pet always wears a collar that fits properly and has current I.D. and rabies tags affixed securely. You might also consider micro-chipping. You will have to prove you are his or her owner.
• Keep a permanent, waterproof "Pets Live Here" sign near your doorbell, this will alert community service workers that you have a pet(s).

If you do have a disaster strike and need local help, go to the Ready America site for help in your area.

If you get separated from your pet, try a wonderful new site called Fido Finder! They are in the business of reuniting families.
