National Take your Dog to Work Day - 2010

Dog owners are on a natural high these days as dog ownership has increased to a whopping 72 million! That means that 72 million families or individuals own dogs all over the United States. That is a great number for dog lovers.

We are spending more and more on our pets than before and take them on more activities with us than before. No more are the days of "no pets allowed" because many people tote their pup along with them. June 25 is "National Take your Dog to Work Day". This fun day was created in 1999 by Pet Sitter International to celebrate the relationships between humans and their dogs and to promote dog adoption.

Of course, not all dogs are going to be on their best behavior therefore there are some guidelines and steps to taking your dog to work:

Make sure to keep your dog in your own work area and not allow him or her to roam throughout the office.

Take your dog to do "his business" before you walk into the office, just to avoid any accidents

Provide water and a clean bowl for your dog

Don't take your dog to work with you if he has fleas or isn't clean

Make sure to clean your work station before you take your dog, make sure there are no exposed cords, etc.

Make sure when you take your dog outside that you come prepared with poop bags and poop accessories

Take your dog his favorite dog blanket or dog bed and bring your dog's favorite dog toy or bring some dog treats

Most of all, enjoy the "not so normal day" with your dog at work and celebrate "Take your dog to work day".
