Winter care for your pet!

The leaves have changed into beautiful shades of red and yellow, the first sign that cold weather is upon us! As enjoyable as snow-filled holiday season can be, it’s important to take the necessary precautions to protect your furry friend from the harm of old man winter.

Keep Your Dogs Nearby. Few things sound more appealing than curling up in front of a fireplace, even for your pet! It’s important to keep careful watch over your dog and the time they spend outside. Smaller dogs have a higher likelihood of freezing in cold weather outside. Also, pets can lose their scent during heavy snow, causing them to get lost and not be able to find their way.

Monitor your dog's health. Be smart with your pup’s health in the winter. Don’t have your pet shaved fully and be sure to dry them off with a blow dryer after they’ve gotten wet and been outside. Be sure to wipe them down completely after coming from outside because they could ingest antifreeze or other harmful chemicals from licking their paws. It’s also important to increase their protein intake during colder months so you can keep their fur in top shape! Remember to rub some petroleum jelly on the soles of their feet to keep their paws from cracking.

Doggie Couture Shop has wonderful dog socks and dog shoes to keep their paws warm when going on their walk or when they are out "doing their business". Check out the winter dog boots too - they can be warm and be fashionable too!

All in all, just be smart with your pet during the winter months to ensure that you and your whole family can enjoy a safe and memorable holiday season!

Take care of those "tootsies" this winter!

One of the most overlooked responsibilities that dog owners have is taking care of their pet's feet! No, this doesn't always mean painting their nails, although it can! Caring for your dog's feet means being carefully examined and taken care of because they walk barefoot everywhere and everyday!

While dogs do have a much more durable "sole" on their feet, any damage to their paws can cause some severe problems. A small cut in the foot can injure ligaments and tendons that create toe position, you'll notice this when a pup's toe points upward.

Speaking of nails, you need to cut your pup's toenails monthly. Long toenails can cause extreme discomfort, almost to the extent of making the dog immobile. When trimming the nails, look right above the lightly colored red speck that begins at the physical toe and extends through the nail, and cut right below it. The red indicated the blood supply for the dog and cutting into it could cause some problems that would need professional attention.

All in all, pups need their "wheels" taken care of just as much as we do. Paying close attention to the condition of your furry friend's toenails and paw pads will ensure that they'll be comfortable for the long afternoon walks or lake trips with your family.

Doggie Couture Shop has great items to help with those "tootsie" problems - a entire line of dog shoes, dog socks and dog boots. One of the best new items at Doggie Couture Shop is the Holiday Dog Boots. A big hit for sure on those cold December days! Now dogs can keep their paws warm and comfy during cold temperatures while not sacrificing style. These festive dog boots feature our holiday tartan pattern and are sherpa trimmed for added warmth. Each dog boot has Velcro® closures and rubber soles to prevent slipping. Set of four boots.

Keep your dog warm and safe this snowy season!

BRRRRRRRR.............
If you happen to be living in an area where winter is super cold; we can betcha that right now it's probably below freezing.

All over the US the temperature's seem to be dropping and you could have snow, ice or freezing rain. Unfortunately for animals, cold weather is just as bad for your animal as hot weather is. Take the precautions NOW to help your pet be happy and healthy until Springtime arrives! Hang on a little longer!

Please do not leave your dog outside without adequate shelter. If your dog is an outside dog all the time he must have warm dog bedding. Doggie Couture Shop has a excellent selection of dog beds to suit any breed.

Humans wear socks when their feet or cold, or those slippers Aunt Edna got you for Christmas. Why would you send your dog out without something on his little paws-there are great protective booties for dogs, or dog socks.

If you have a smaller dog and one with a small amount of hair, make sure to put on a dog sweater or dog jacket. Make sure that the food and water outside has not frozen. A elevated dog bowl will certainly help when they are playing in the snow and need a little nip.

There is no reason why an animal should suffer out in this cold, there are dog hats to keep their heads warm, dog booties, dog sweaters, heated dog beds - all made for your animal's use. Again, no dog should suffer. If you cannot keep your dog indoors, please make sure to go the extra mile for your dog.

Spend a little money this winter on keeping your animal warm and happy and safe and then just light the fireplace and snuggle up and enjoy the season of cold.

Grab your ChiLLy dog and get warm at Doggie Couture Shop!

Winter can be so much fun and such a great time of the year but can also bring major stress for a dog. Not only are their owners running around shopping, cooking, cleaning and possibly not at home for extended periods of time - what is worse is that it's dang cold outside!

Look at the age and breed of your dog. Older dogs are unable to manage cold weather as younger dogs and if your dog is a small dog; its common sense that they are not going to be able to stay outside as long as a St. Bernard.

If your dog is primarily a outdoor dog please plan early for proper shelter for him. Your dog should have a warm area to be in when outdoors. You could buy a heated dog bed, or a dog house that is insulated with a nice dog blanket inside for cushion. Make sure that no dog bedding is wet for an extended period of time. Doggie Couture Shop has a large variety of outside dog beds sure to fit your dog and his personality and your budget.

Change our dog's water often during the day or get a elevated dog bowl that prevents your dog's water from freezing. A dog can dehydrate in the winter as well as summer if adequate water is not available. Again, Doggie Couture Shop's passion is to make sure your dog has the best, and he can with beautiful elevated dog feeders; and they come in many colors such as: teal, gold, pink, black, sapphire blue and red. You won't go wrong with these, and what a great Christmas gift this would make for any dog!

Check your dog's ears and hair and even paws for icicles, snow or even frostbite. We are happy to announce that Doggie Couture Shop has great dog sandals and dog socks to keep your dogs paws warm and toasty through the winter season.

Yes, dog's can benefit from dog sweaters and dog coats or a great dog vest. Those who say that they are fine outside without some kind of covering are full of reindeer mush. Why not invest in a nice dog sweater or dog hoodie for your dog to give him the added warmth that he needs when out for a walk or outside playing.

Make the winter holidays super fun with no drama and certainly no trauma - be prepared and be a good pet owner and shop with Doggie Couture Shop for the best winter dog items around.
